The temporary exhibition "History on Embroidery"
in the Museum of Marble Crafts

The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP), in the framework of the Anniversary Activities by Piraeus Bank for the bicentennial of the 1821 Revolution, organizes the temporary exhibition "History on Embroidery" in the Museum of Marble Crafts at Pyrgos, Tinos.

The exhibition presents twelve embroideries created during the quarantine period by Stamatis Zannos, curator and designer of museum exhibitions. Drawing upon the coloured lithographs by French painter Louis Dupré (1789-1837), Zannos shows the audience how a creator today uses traditional means of expression such as embroidery to depict images that were recorded by a zealous Philhellene in Greece, in 1819, on the eve of the Revolution. Explaining why he chose Dupré, Zannos says in the introduction to the exhibition: "I like his works, they paint a pretty picture of situations, almost idealizing them. Besides, I want to be soothed by art. I cannot stand aggressiveness through art. Perhaps this is my character. Although this doesn't mean that I reject anything else ― even more so here, where art functions in a way as 'therapy'."

After Tinos, the exhibition will travel to PIOP's Silversmithing Museum in Ioannina.

Duration of the exhibition: 9 July – 30 September 2021
Opening hours: Daily, except Tuesday, 10:00-18:00
