A photography exhibition on Mediterranean Diet
in the Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil

The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP), in cooperation with Anemon Productions, starting from Monday 4 March 2024, presents the photography exhibition Foodprint, in the Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil.


On the theme of the Mediterranean Diet and its importance for people's lives today, the exhibition links Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Cyprus and Croatia through the photos taken by five European photographers who bring to life an ancient way of life and nutrition. This diet has been recognized by UNESCO as an element of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity due to its unique qualities. Based on frugality, sharing and seasonality, it provides solutions to some of the most critical problems facing the planet today such as the loss of biodiversity, food waste and climate change.

The photographs by Johann Clausen, Elena Heatherwick, Myrto Papadopoulou, Chris de Bode and Maria Contreras Coll depict the various aspects of the Mediterranean Diet today. The exhibition in the Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil in Sparti is part of the European tour that until now includes Italy, Cyprus, Turkey, Croatia, Albania, the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) in Athens and the Environment Museum of Stymphalia in the mountainous region of Corinthia.

In the framework of the exhibition, the documentary "The Perfect Meal", directed by Alexandros Merkouris, takes the viewer on a journey from Greece and Cyprus to Italy, Spain, France, England, Sweden and the USA, revealing the secrets of the Mediterranean Diet and showing how and why this diet is considered one of the healthiest in the world and how it can contribute to tackling climate change. The documentary, 52 minutes long, will be available for screening to high school groups until the end of this school year; reservations are required, by calling 27310 89315.

Foodprint is a production by Anemon co-organised with the Goethe-Institut Athens, the Museum of Cycladic Art, the Museums of Brescia, Italy, the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation and the Museum of Cypriot Food and Nutrition, in collaboration with the Directorate of Modern Cultural and Intangible Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation. It takes place under the auspices of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO and was created with the support of the European Union’s Creative Europe programme.
